IBM to set up office in Hubli

The city, which is looking forward to inviting new Information Technology companies to improve the employment opportunities for software professional from this part of the country, has a good news in the form of software giant IBM, deciding to open an office in Vijayawada too during current calendar year. According to information the IBM will open 13 new branches in Kanpur, Patna, Ranchi, Nasik, Goa, Mysore, Vadodara, Hubli, Udaipur, Rajkot, Trichy, Vijayawada and Jammu, as part of their geographic expansion initiative of having their presence in 47 cities across India and South Asia.

When contacted the IBM officials did not confirm the news, but also did not deny. In 2011, they had launched 12 new branches. at Coimbatore, Indore, Guwahati, Raipur, Dehradun, Visakhapatnam, Trivandrum, Jamshedpur, Ludhiana, Surat, Nagpur and Mangalore. This will not only enhance IBM's client and partner relationships, but also improve their ability to deliver software solutions, technologies and services close to the client's location.

100-crore revamp for six heritage cities - Gulbarga, Bidar, Bijapur & kittur among them

BANGALORE: The state government will spend Rs100 crore over the next three years to develop six cities that have been identified as important from the heritage point of view.Kannada and Culture Minister Govind Karjol disclosed this on Wednesday. The cities where basic infrastructure will be developed are Gulbarga, Bidar, Srirangapatna, Bijapur, Kittur and Mysore.Karjol said the blueprint and action plan to develop the cities are ready. The cities would get drinking water facilities, approach roads, interior roads, toilets, parking lots, hotels and rest houses of international standards. The work would start in the beginning of financial year 2011. The gazetteer directorate had undertaken the task of computerising more than five lakh historically important documents, he said, adding that the documents include Tipu Sultan’s correspondence with the British. The project would cost `80 lakh. He said Hampi Development Authority's rules and guidelines will be framed in the next Assembly session.

Industries to set up units at Dharwad

DHARWAD: Mahindra and Mahindra and few other industries have expressed their willingness to establish their units at Dharwad. Minister for large and medium industries, Murugesh Nirani, said a JCB unit with an investment of Rs 500 crore will be set up at Dharwad.

Nirani told The Times of India on Monday that Baba Kalyani group will shift its proposed unit from Bangalore to Dharwad. Also, Hero Honda, which proposed to produce one lakh vehicles every year at Dharwad has now decided to manufacture two lakh vehicles per year, the minister disclosed.

Speaking on the government's future plans, the industries minister said it will introduce a new scheme __ `Udgyoga, Uddime' (employment, industry) __ to reduce unemployment among rural youths. Separate offices will be established at Gulbarga, Belgaum, Mysore and Bangalore divisions to implement the scheme effectively. The Centre will join the state government in sponsoring this scheme.
