[Hubli] Students paint twin cities green

HUBLI: BVB College of Engineering and Technology here launched Hasriu Hubballi Greenathon-2010, a programme of planting saplings to develop greenery in the city, here on Saturday.

District minister Jagadish Shettar did the honours on BVB college premises by plating a sapling. He lauded the efforts of the college to develop greenery in the twin cities by taking this step. He also appealed to citizens, government organizations and authorities to join hands with the college to take the programme forward.

Explaining the programme college principal Ashok Shettar said it aims at planting and maintaining 2,500 saplings across the twin cities. "College students have taken the lead in providing a platform for people to plant and adopt the saplings," he added.

About 120 saplings will be planted in Navangar, 100 each in Adarsh Nagar, Lingarajnagar, Akshay Colony and on Nrupatunga Hills, 110 in Shantinagar, 95 off Kusgal Road, 60 in Manjunath Nagar, and 100 in Dharwad during the programme.

Two hundred saplings were planted on BVB campus by the participants on the occasion.
