In order to provide a permanent solution to the drinking water problem in 53 villages and 19 tandas of Indi taluk, the Panchayat Raj Engineering Division of Bijapur district has submitted a proposal to the State Government for taking up Rs. 45.Link83-crore multi-village project, Ramesh Jigajinagi, MP, has said.

He told presspersons here on Wednesday that it would be a “low-cost” project as water would be stored in the Arjanal tank from the Indi sub-canal through “gravity flow system”. The Arjanal tank's capacity is 80 million cubic meters (mcum) and the water required for the project would was only 2 mcum, he said. The project would be completed in 18 months.

Delegation

“As the proposal has been submitted to the Government, a delegation led by Indi MLA S.S. Bagali and Nagtan MLA Vittal Katakdond will be taken to the Chief Minister to seek early clearance for the project,” Mr. Jigajinagi added.

ZP developments

Mr. Jigajinagi said he was keen on making his elder sister, Kamalabai Mayavanshi, who represents Atharga, as president of the Bijapur Zilla Panchayat. He, however, added that the party leadership's decision would be final.

The BJP district core committee recently decided to seek the resignation of zilla panchayat president Shankrubai Chalwadi and vice-president Shrishailgouda Biradar to provide an opportunity to other BJP members to be at the helm of affairs in the panchayat for the remainder of its term. Ms. Chalwadi submitted her resignation on Tuesday.

On the differences between Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and the State BJP president K.S. Eshwarappa, the MP said the leaders, who struggled for decades to come to power, should concentrate on development works and win the hearts of people.
