DHARWAD: Thirty seven villages in Dharwad and Kundgol taluk of Dharwad district will have multi-village drinking water supply scheme implemented at a cost of Rs 540 crore. Jal Nirmal Yojana unit has prepared an action plan to solve the drinking water problem in these villages spread over 20 gram panchayats.
Minister for rural development and panchjayat raj Jagadeesh Shettar, who is also the minister in-charge of Dharwad district revealed this at the quarterly meeting to review the progress of Karnataka Development Programme here on Monday.
He said 14 villages in Dharwad taluk and 13 in Kundgol taluk will have the scheme implemented. The minister instructed the officials to supply water through tanker to these villages till the scheme is implemented.
MLAs Seema Masuti (Dharwad), S I Chikkanagoudar(Kundgol) and Shankar Patil Munenakoppa (Navalagund) explained the plight of villagers in their constituencies and urged the minister to take steps to solve the problem.
When the officials of agriculture and horticulture departments drew the attention of the minister to the plea by farmers that the date for paying premium for crop insurance should be extended, Shettar said he would take up the matter with Centre.
He asked the officials of social welfare department to send proposal for construction of new hostels in the district, in view of increasing demand for accommodation by students. There are nine hostels for post-matric students and 16 for pre-matric students in the district.
MLA Veerabhadra Halaharavi said, dengue, chikungunya are on the rise in the district. DHO informed that till date 80 people are affected with dengue, while 70 people are affected with chikungunya. The district hospital has maintained the buffer stock of drugs available to treat the diseases. No casualty has been reported, he added.
