The Karnataka State Broadgauge Railway Agitation Committee of Bagalkot has urged the South Western Railway authorities to take steps to ensure proper rail connectivity in the Gadag-Bijapur-Bagalkot region.
A delegation led by president of the committee Qutubuddin Kazi and vice-president Shrinivas Ballary met SWR General Manager Kuldeep Chaturvedi and Divisional Railway Manager of Hubli Praveenkumar Mishra in Hubli on Friday and urged them to take steps to fulfil its demands.
The delegation brought to the notice of the railway authorities that several trains used to run on the Gadag-Bijapur-Bagalkot section when it was metergauge. However, after gauge conversion, no steps had been taken to get regular trains on the route. Mr. Chaturvedi promised that steps would be taken to operate another train to Bijapur from Guntakal. Dharwad-Gadag Push-Pull train would be extended to Sollapur and Badami station would be upgraded soon.
