Sugar factory to come up in Bijapur district

BIJAPUR: An integrated sugar complex will come up in the district with an investment of Rs 400 crore.

This was disclosed here at a press conference by BLDE association president, Babaleshwar MLA and Basaveshwar Sugars Ltd director M B Patil on Friday.

The bhumi puja of the factory will be held on December 12 at 10.30 am at the factory near Karjol on NH 218, which is 29 km from Bijapur.

He said that, for the construction of factory, nearly 300 acres of land purchased from the farmers of the village at a reasonable market price. The Sriniwasan group which owns the company, hails from Peramblur (Tamil Nadu). The group also owns another sugar factory along with medical and engineering colleges.

The farmers of Bijapur and Basavana Bagewadi taluk stand to benefit as nearly 500 youth will get employment directly and 5000 may get seasonal employment, Patil said.

Union labour minister Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief minister Dharmsingh, opposition leader Siddharamaiah, KPCC president Dr G Parameshwar, former minister H K Patil, MP Ramesh Jigajinagi, Kannada culture minister Govind Karjol and city MLA Appasaheb Pattanashetty will participate in the bhumi puja. Dhanalakshmi Sriniwasan group founder chairman A Sriniwasan will preside over the function.

The factory will come up within 18 months and the foundation stone laying ceremony will be held in January by Union energy minister Sushilkumar Shinde, he said.
